About Us

Arcana Musical Instruments combines the musical and artistic talents of Josh Keegan and Jerred Houseman. Five years ago they embarked on a journey to uncover the beautiful sound of singing steel pans. Their expedition has resulted in a great love for the handpan instrument and has birthed in them a passion to build the best sounding instruments possible. They have dedicated themselves to the craft and invite you to take part in the fruit of their labor and discovery.

You can check out a recent write up about us over at HandPans Magazine here.

Our builders

Josh Keegan

Josh has been involved with music for the past three decades. As a teenager he began playing guitar and his passion for music still burns strong today. He is also the co-founder of Colorado Soundscapes where he helped design a revolutionary bridge for the lamellophone. In 2010 he started playing handpans and then started making them in 2012, sinking shells by hand in the Canyons of Manitou Springs. He continues to improve his techniques and tools, which in turn has helped to produce the beautiful ring of Arcana’s handpans.

Here is a clip of Josh playing one of his electric Mbiras at the 2016 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition Final Concert

Jerred Houseman

Jerred is an accomplished musician of 10 years and tours with his band, Helleborus. He began playing the handpan in 2012 and immediately decided that he wanted to build them himself. He met Josh in Manitou Springs and they began sharing information and tools for building instruments. Jerred previously started Vimana Handpan and has tuned for other builders as well including David Berry of Dave’s Island Instruments.
